FireForce 3 Makeover

27th March 2018

The down season over the winter certainly doesn’t mean that work gets quieter for Martin. This year though, was a busier one than usual.

The trusty old FireForce transit van had a total makeover with a new lick of paint and new graphics making the old boy seem sparkly and new!

AND………we are pleased to reveal that FireForce 3 has had a revamp!

The colour is slightly different and the graphics have been tweaked a little but we wanted to keep the car relatively the same so it kept the familiarity of FireForce 3. We know many people have grown up with this car and the fact that it has performed all over Europe at many events, we didn’t want to go for a whole new design and lose the essence of FF3.

But at the same time, we wanted to make it different enough so that it wasn’t a carbon copy of the original design. Hopefully people will like the new look FireForce 3.

We liaised with Santa Pod Raceway on the colour and graphics which resulted in the end product. We  extend our sincere thanks to Santa Pod for their continued support with Number 3!

Massive thanks go to Tim at Colourkraft for the superb paintwork and to Mark from Sign Style for the graphics. The professionalism, standard of work and the quick turn around time in which both the van and body were completed was amazing. Thanks Guys!!

So, as we look towards the Easter weekend and our first outing of 2018 at the Festival of Power, we look forward to getting back on the track. Let’s just hope the weather doesn’t stop us.

See you at the track!

Last Few Events – Overview

11/09/2017

The last few weeks have been a bit manic to say the least. Both Bug Jam and USC at Santa Pod saw rain affect some of our scheduled runs.

After USC, we loaded Number 3 ready for the Bulldog Bash at Shakespeare County Raceway. We managed one solo run on Friday but the side by side with Split Second was cancelled due to rain. We had better luck on Saturday when we managed both the solo and side by side!

After our side by side run on Saturday, we gt packed up and drove straight back to Santa Pod in preparation for Mini in the park on Sunday 13th August.

Thankfully the rain stayed away and we managed 2 stout runs with Number 5, a 5.3@296mph and 5.3@284mph!

Next up was NitrOlympX at Hockenheim. The side by side run to close the Saturday Night Show was cancelled as one lane was out of action so FireForce 3 and Dragon Hunter did solo runs instead. On Sunday, the side by sides took place to close the event

Whilst Martin and the team were at NitrOlympX, Julian Webb took to the controls of FireForce 5 back at Santa Pod for the UK Monster Truck Nationals. Julian managed a steady 5.55@285mph supported by his crewman Chris!

The Junior Drag Racing Fun Day on Thursday 24th August saw Martin back at the wheel of FireForce 5 for this free family fun day!

Whilst there wasn’t an event for us over the August Bank Holiday, there was a lot to prepare for as FireForce 3 made it’s way to Norway for the Rudskogen Motor Festival. Whilst the Rudskogen Motor Park was not a dragstrip, there was enough of a straight section for Martin to do the afterburner show, a launch before pulling the chutes. The crowds were delighted by this new spectacle at their track and both Martin and the guys had a memorable time in Norway!

Again, whilst Martin was away with Number 3, Julian Webb held the fort back at Santa Pod at the VW Action event over Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September. Julian’s run on Saturday was 5.37@281mph and then a storming 5.36@296mph on Sunday! Our sincere thanks to Julian, Chris and Roy for representing Team FireForce during Martin’s commitments overseas.

Both FireForce 3 and FireForce 5 were ready for action for the FIA European Finals over 8th – 10th September, however the weather had other ideas. Rain over all of the 3 days meant that only 2 of our scheduled runs took place. One run for Number 5 on Friday evening and one for Number 3 on Sunday afternoon.

It was a bitterly disappointing weekend for all the team and despite everyone’s best efforts, the great British weather defeated us all!

Next up for Martin and FireForce is FordFest at Santa Pod on Sunday 17th September!

The FireForce Team are pleased to announce that FireForce 3 Jet Funny Car will be at the Bulldog Bash on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th August. The guys will then make their way from Long Marston back to Santa Pod ready for Mini in the Park on Sunday 13th August.

FireForce 3 will then make its way across Europe to perform in front of the German crowds at the NitrOlympX event at Hockenheim on Saturday 19th August.

Next up will be the Junior Drag Racing Fun Day at Santa Pod on Thursday 24th August followed closely by a BRAND NEW event for the team at Rudskogen Motor Festival in Norway on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September.

Main Event Report

30/05/2017

The FIA Main Event at Santa Pod over the Whitsun weekend proved a bit of a mixed bag. On the plus side, the weather at Pod was glorious in the week leading up to the Main Event with temperatures soaring on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was also a welcome relief to have FireForce 3 back from Bahrain and managed some steady runs over Friday, Saturday and Sunday all within 5.82 and 5.83 seconds. The dragster (FF5) also ran a steady 5.4@239mph on Saturday. Unfortunately on Sunday, Number 5 suffered a failure on the startline. Later investigation found it was a broken drive shaft so repair work will be underway to get this up and running.

Monday was a different story as the storm clouds rolled in. Twice we made it down to the pairing lanes only to get caught in a downpour both times resulting in an abrupt and disappointing end to our weekend.

Our next outing is at the Classic Ford Show on Sunday 4th June so let’s hope for the good weather to return.

New PB’s for FireForce 5

03/04/2017

Our first outing of 2017 at Santa Pod proved fairly successful with new PB’s set. On Saturday 1st April, the FireForce 5 jet dragster set a new speed PB reaching 306mph over the 1/4 mile with an early shut off!

Temperature conditions were just right and we were pleased with the overall performance considering the dragster has been in storage since November last year.

Sunday 2nd April saw a couple more good passes with the first setting a new E.T PB at 5.07 seconds at 298mph.

Bahrain Update

27/02/2017

The first ever appearance by a jet car at the Bahrain International Circuit during Round 4 of the BDRC seems to have been successful!

With one 5.8 second run on Thursday 23rd Feb followed by a 5.77 second run on Friday 25th Feb, FireForce 3 certainly showed the crowds what jet powered vehicles can really do.

Aside from a few minor issues, the car ran well and the crew now have a few days to relax (only slightly) before FireForce 3 demos at Round 5 on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd March.

If the recent Bahrain newspaper reports are anything to go by, the Bahrain Drag Racing Championship have been attracting some attention!
